Getting Ripped off on eBay and What To Do
The other day I listed 3 new iPod touches onto eBay to make a few quick sales. 2 sold just fine but one didn’t. And do you know why?
Simple explanation – someone was bidding on it with a fake account. I looked them up and sure enough – guess what? They had a phone number but that number didn’t work. It was a forged number.
What I’ve noticed is that people are in the business of creating fake eBay account with what are called PVA’s (phone verified accounts). I’m not exactly sure what these guys do to create the accounts but you can see them for sale on some marketing and affiliate forums.
Pretty sneaky stuff in my opinion.
And what’s the point of doing this? Probably to drive the price up so a competing auction can sneak by.
I don’t know – I was very dissapointed. What I do now for my eBay listings is to put up a big disclaimer on my auction saying I’ll only accept the winning bid from someone who has has a positive rating on eBay.
There’s no way to enforce this – but I’m hoping it will scare away the scammers!
